AI is making software development faster than ever – but it hasn’t fixed how teams actually build. As coding gets cheaper, bottlenecks are shifting elsewhere: missing work, fragmented knowledge, and AI used in isolation instead of shared context. To understand where things really break down, we surveyed 350 engineers, tech leads, and engineering managers across companies of all sizes.

What we found:

• 59% discover missing work mid-cycle
• 64% keep critical knowledge in people’s heads
• 52% have no shared AI context across the team
• Only 9% use AI to generate product requirements
